Proximal Humerus Fracture
Fractures of the proximal humerus often result from trauma or falls. Dr Edoardo Giovannetti De Sanctis, orthopaedic shoulder specialist in Nice, provides international patients along the French Riviera with advanced fracture management and post-operative care.
A proximal humerus fracture is a break that occurs near the top of the upper arm bone, close to the shoulder joint.
These fractures often result from falls, sports injuries, or high-energy trauma, particularly in older adults with osteoporosis.
Symptoms include shoulder pain, swelling, bruising, and limited arm mobility.
Treatment depends on the severity and displacement of the fracture: many cases heal well with conservative management such as immobilisation. In contrast, more complex or unstable fractures may require surgical fixation or shoulder replacement to restore proper alignment and function.
With appropriate care and rehabilitation, patients can regain strength, mobility, and a good range of motion.
